Alcohol Inks on Polymer Clay

I have recently expanded on my shop products and added a new line of ring dishes & trinket bowls to compliment my jewellery collection at Lottie of London.

This gave me the chance to dig out the alcohol inks and play around.

Now it had been a long time since I've played with inks and felt like I needed a little testing and refreshing of my techniques before I went gung ho and started making the ring dishes.

Here are some examples of of my test slices playing with colours and different applications, as you can see I had some fun!

Well my technique hasn't left me, I'm delighted with these results and they will make for some beautiful ring dishes.

Skull & Bones Polymer Clay Pendants

Its been a busy week again have gone back to school and we get used to the routine again.

So I've been adding some new items to my Etsy store and adding some final touches to some pieces that have been waiting to be finished.

With Halloween not so far away I thought I'd show you some new pendants I made using a perspex skull & bones roller I purchased quite a while ago from a lovely stall at Old Spitalfields Market.

It took a while to get the pattern how I wanted and I coated the pendants with some Lumiere paints to give them a more old and rustic feel and to finish and make them really stand out I added some of those Swarovski hot crystals I've been playing with lately to the skulls eyes, the Topaz colour really make the pendant stand out while the jet black crystals are a more subtle finish.

Perfect Pearls & Polymer Clay Part 2

For my next project on perfect pearls I used a tutorial from Donna Kato's The Art of Polymer Clay- Creative Surface Effects - The Cloisonne Heart Pin.

For the pattern of the texture plate I used an assortment of my collages to sketch some patterns for designs ideas and created my texture plate

Following the project instructions I used both my perfect pearls and my mica pigment powders together as this gave me a wider range of colours to work with, and here it is below, I was skeptical at first even as I was using the heat gun to make the Kato clear it took ages and I thought I had gone wrong somewhere but patience paid off.

I am in love with this method and its reminded me of why I fell in love with polymer clay in the first place, it holds so many possibility's

Its not a very clear picture I know, but i was so please and wanted to blog asap to show you all.  It still needs polishing and finishing but it looks great, the colours to pop as much as I'd hoped but this could be because of the colour range I have.

Now to decide if it should be a pin or a pendant, what do you think?

Update 19/02/2012

Here's an updated photo, before sanding, buffing and polishing my Cloisonne piece was very muted and foggy and I thought I had done something wrong, but no a good clean and and it looks good which I think will now become a brooch.

My Finished Necklace with Microfine Glitter

Microfine glitter and polymer clay
I have spent the last two days creating my focal bead and some additional beads to finish my necklace. It has been made using a chocolate fimo I mixed up myself and my micro fine glitters.

Microfine Glitter, a more successful attempt

On Sunday I had more time to experiment with the micro fine glitters and this is my creation, also my first attempt at making a donut and I must say I am very pleased with this bead.

My first thoughts on the micro fine was that it is very limited in the ways you can apply it using a brush, dabbing and rubbing the glitter in to create a fuller colour, my initial presumption was that I would be able to create more delicate patterns using the glitter but I just don't think this is possible, that said I have since learnt other methods of applying the glitter and created some nice beads I am really pleased with and that I am planning on creating a necklace with.
I do need to try some more experiments Ii would like to know if its possible to apply liquid polymer clay onto a glitter base and then apply cane slices onto this but I haven't had time as yet to try this, I will let you know when I find out.Microfine glitter on polymer clay beads

So my Micro Fine Glitter and Alcohol Inks (from EJR Beads) arrived Friday just gone and I didn't get much time initially to play with them but here's a photo of my testing of the first colours. The smaller beads I have coated in each colour the larger bead I attempted to do some sort of pattern on them very unsuccessfully. The mistake i made on these first trial beads was to just coat them and cook them but I now know that to achieve the best colour from the Glitter you need to rub it in.
You can also see from these beads that the base colour of the clay you are using does have some effect on the resulting colour as the bead that looks pink is in fact covered with a copper type micro fine glitter but the clay underneath was pink.
